You have been referred for an orofacial myofunctional disorder initial evaluation. What is this all about?
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are atypical adaptive patterns that come about when orofacial muscles aren't working as they should. These atypical patterns can lead to symptoms such as mouth breathing, crowded teeth, interrupted sleep, speech concerns, and difficulties with eating and drinking.
What causes an OMD?
The primary causes of OMDs include obstructed airways (chronic allergies, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, etc.), structural issues such as a tongue-tie, and extended oral habits (thumb sucking, pacifier use, extended sippy cup use, etc.).
We are excited to help you along this path to improved health.
